Fiber Christmas in July, July 26 & 27

christinjulyFiber Christmas in July is an annual fiber celebration in Oklahoma with classes, a skein contest, a fiber marketplace with over thirty vendors, and a charity mission.

This year’s Fiber Christmas will offer classes in knitting, weaving, spinning, and felting. Here is a brief overview of what’s on tap:

  •     Knit a Smart Phone or Tablet Carrier
  •     Loom Knitting Basics
  •     Magic Loop
  •     Needle Felting with Wet Felt Finish
  •     Nuno Felt Scarf
  •     Rigid Heddle Weaving
  •     Shepherd’s Knit
  •     The Reds: Cochineal and Madder
  •     Weaving a Faux Ikat Scarf
  •     Woolen & Worsted Intermediate Spinning

Spinners will be interested in the Heartfelt Handspun Contest. There are five categories in the contest: one ply, two ply, other ply, freestyle (non traditional yarns like coiled yarns and beehive yarns), and Christmas-themed yarns.

Fiber Christmas in July will be accepting chemo hats for donation at the event. Soft yarns, baby yarns, and cotton are suggested materials; wool is discouraged as it can cause irritation for some patients. Persons donating hats have the option of entering their work in a hat contest, with vendor-donated prizes.
